If you are in Dublin over the weekend it will be worth popping into the GIG bar on Hogan Place, just around the corner from Holles Street.
Marking the 50th anniversary of the Republic of Ireland Women’s first international match against Wales, played on the 13th May 1973, The GIG will open on Friday 12th – Sunday 14th May, in what is normally the Square Ball bar.
The walls are covered with memorabilia and imagery from past glories of the Republic of Ireland women’s national team and there will be a showcase of female sport across the weekend, including fixtures from matchday 10 of the SSE Airtricity League of Ireland Women’s Premier Division.
Linda Gorham, Nikki Evans and Áine O’Gorman were there last night chatting with Ger Gilroy for a special opening event and there was a real sense of celebrating the past as well as being excited for the present and the future.
The bar has been kitted out by Carlsberg 0.0 as official partners of the Women’s National Team.
