There was plenty of colour and endeavour at the Union Cup Tag Glitz Blitz on Saturday as teams got into the spirit of a warm-up tournament for the major LGBT+ Union Cup taking place at DCU on June 7th to 9th.
Vodafone’s drag mascot ‘Fona Lisa’ is pictured above with members of the team while fellow sponsors Guinness were also represented on Saturday.
Bank of Ireland are the third main sponsor in the ‘Union Cup’ but were a little busy with Leinster over in Newcastle to focus yet on this particular new coming together in the sport.
Members of the Emerald Warriors team who will represent Ireland in the main event were present for the Tag tournament at Wanderers RFC. A Tag blitz will also take place as part of the weekend festivities in four weeks time.
In Tag Rugby Women’s scores are normally credited as worth double points and the same advantage was handed during this tournament to men who were dressed in drag.
The event served as a warm-up for the Union Cup which will bring together 45 teams from 15 countries for a tournament marketed as the most inclusive of any major sport.
Tickets are available from www.unioncupdublin.ie priced at €10 Adult, €5 Child (under 2 go free), all profits go to Belong To LGBT youth services.
