The new Vanilla flavoured Avonmore Protein Milk was launched at Croke Park yesterday by Jackie Tyrell of Kilkenny and Paul Flynn of Dublin, both of whom will be among the ambassadors pictured on cartons.
This is year three of a ten year deal with Avonmore which benefits programmes run by the GPA for all of its members through a contribution made from the sale of every carton.
“Both sides have been very happy with how this deal has worked out”, said GAA/GPA Business Development Manager Barry Cahill speaking to Sport for Business.
“It’s of mutual benefit to both to promote the products as we both see a return. The funding goes towards programmes including for players who want to go to college, who want to set up their own business or who might be experiencing problems in their personal lives.”
“Nutritionists working in the GAA ‘family’ stand by the product and we work well with them in the growing importance of sports science.”
“We are also working on a number of other products as well so we are looking to build a suite of endorsed products that covers what senior inter county players eat and drink from when they rise to when they go to bed.”
“Avonmore are one of seven commercial partners that have a relationship between the two organisations, the others being Opel, Aer Lingus, PwC, Best Menswear, Opro who supply mouth guards, Lenovo and Cúl Heroes Playing Cards which have been a great success and have started a new magazine now. That helps getting to know the local heroes from a young age.”
The GAA and Gaelic Players original five year partnership was signed in 2011 and has been extended for twelve months while negotiations continue on a new deal expected to be signed in the coming few months.
Speaking specifically about the Glanbia deal Peter McKenna, GAA Commercial and Croke Park Director said “Glanbia’s presence in households through the popularity of their products, means in many ways they mirror the GAA and GPA. I wish everyone involved continued success with this product as it continues to make a noteworthy contribution to the Player Development Programme.”
“As a leading international performer in the area of nutrition, our continued relationship to endorse Glanbia’s Avonmore Protein Milk is a perfect fit for the GAA and GPA,” added GPA Chief Executive Dessie Farrell.
“Sales of this healthy, Irish-produced product helps strengthen our Player Development Programme as we strive to make a meaningful difference to the off-field lives of our county hurlers and footballers. I’d like to thank Glanbia who continue to strengthen their long-time support of Gaelic games.”
A special two for one deal on tickets to Sports and Tech 2016, a global gathering for sports and technology leaders at the RDS this October runs until June 30th. We will shortly be announcing a wave of new speakers and some exciting event partners…
