Saturday’s GAA Special Congress will be dominated by the choice to be made on the shape of future All Ireland Football Championships.

On Sport for Business tomorrow morning we will have substantial reporting and analysis of the options, the views being expressed across the association and the breakdown of who will be voting.

It is not the only item that was put back from February to a time when an in-person discussion could be held.

The first item to be discussed surrounds the roles and responsibilities of what will now switch from a Development Officer to that of a Planning and Training Officer.

There are also some changes to the language around the Safety and Facilities Committee within each County.

The most interesting of the secondary motions though is the amendment to Rule 3.32 which will mandate each County Board to appoint a new Audit and Risk Committee.

At a media briefing in Croke Park today, the first in-person in over a year, Finance Director Ger Mulryan confirmed to Sport for Business that ten counties currently have such a committee in place and that the remainder were working towards it.

Having such an oversight group that will “promote and monitor good governance standards” would seem to be a fairly important addition to the rule book, especially in a sporting environment where governance has been given such a priority by Government and by Sport Ireland.

In common with the other motions, it will require a sixty per cent vote in favour to be implemented.

Director General Tom Ryan confirmed that once the motion is passed it will become effective within weeks, hastening a call to suitably qualified volunteers to do their bit for their county.
