The Irish Independent first sponsored the event last year on an initial 12 month agreement, and this new sponsorship agreement will secure title rights for the event through to 2018.
“The Irish Independent is delighted to renew its sponsorship of The Irish Greyhound Laurels in Curraheen Park Greyhound Stadium,” said Marketing Manager Arlene Regan.
“Last year we signed an initial 12 month agreement, and we were so pleased with the event and the engagement with the greyhound racing community that we’ve come on board for a further 3 years.”
This is the second major sponsorship extension announced by the Irish Greyhound Board in 2016 following the €120,000 commitment of Gain Foods announced last month.
“Not only does this partnership allow us to reach the greyhound racing community but also the various audiences that attend “a night at the dogs” for social events and nights out.”
It is a second long term sporting commitment in the heartland of the Examiner newspaper for the Indo, having already signed a ten year naming rights deal for Irish Independent Park, the second home of Munster Rugby, in the city.
The 2016 Irish Independent Irish Laurels Final will run in the Cork venue on Saturday 16th July. The winners’ prize fund is set to be €30,000 and the total prize-fund for the competition is €60,000. The sponsorship agreement includes a full advertising support package for the event via the Independent News & Media Group of Titles.
“Last year when we announced the new sponsorship agreement with the Irish Independent, we sought to bring the Irish Greyhound Laurels to a nationwide audience,” added Phil Meaney, Chairman of The Irish Greyhound Board

“The sponsorship delivered on this, and also provided the Irish Independent with a platform to communicate with their customers directly.
