Ireland’s last minute Guinness Six Nations defeat to England in Twickenham on Saturday night saw an average audience of 971,000 watching on RTÉ2.
69% of those watching TV at the time were tuned-in to the coverage which peaked at 1.2 million at 6.33pm. There were an additional 230,000 streams on the RTÉ Player.
The average number is ahead of the 872,000 average who tuned into last year’s Grand Slam decider against England but behind the 1,067,000 average who tuned into Virgin to see the opening win against France this season.
The Guinness Six Nations concludes this weekend with Ireland playing Scotland live on Virgin Media and Wales Vs Italy followed by England Vs France in Lyon both on RTÉ.
Hopefully there will be nothing to play for in the latter game with Ireland having done enough against Scotland to have secured the Championship.
Scotland themselves will have plenty to play for being the only side left with the potential to win the triple crown.
While Ireland are overwhelming favourites to win the Championship, at odds of 1/100 with Boylesports, any of four teams still have a mathematical chance going into the last two games.
