The Ireland U20 Rugby Team swept aside hosts South Africa yesterday to qualify for the World Championship final which will take place against France on Friday.

The pair played a brilliant game en route to Ireland’s win in the Six Nations earlier this year and it promises to be a cracker of a game.

This squad is coming off the back of a double Grand Slam and could be the most talented single group that the IRFU has ever had the care of.

The two tries from cross-field kicks between Sam Prendergast and James Nicholson yesterday were the kind of moves that have fans jumping out of their seats whether watching live or tuning into Virgin Media’s coverage of the tournament.

Ireland has never won this tournament. The only time they qualified for the final was back in 2016 when they lost out to England.

The squad from seven years ago gives an indication of what we might look forward to from this year’s crop.

Jimmy O’Brien, Jacob Stockdale and Hugo Keenen were in the backs; Andrew Porter, Max Deegan, James Ryan and Will Connors were in the forwards.

Two years previously Sean O’Brien and Garry Ringrose were among those on the panel.

The side has been sponsored for the last decade by PwC who also back the Sport for Business PwC 30 Under 30 and who clearly has an eye for emerging talent.

The Final against France will take place at 6 PM on Friday, July 14th with full live coverage on Virgin Media.
