Away from the brightest of lights, yet, Michael Agwi is a young Irish sports star creating noise in one of the world’s highest profile sports.
Later today he will face Clement Chidekh of France in the Quarter Final of the ATP Challenger Tour event in Hamburg.
This is his first event competing in singles and he has already won four games to get this far.
Since January he has climbed from in the 1100’s of the world rankings to number 758.
So far in Germany he has toppled Filipo Pelower of Poland, ranked 455; Harry Wendelken of Britain; Cel Ilkel of Turkey ranked 266 and Marc Andrea Huesler ranked 199.
He looks the part, he plays with athleticism and a smile on his face and he was a star of the show at the Davis Cup tie against Austria in Limerick last month.
Win or lose today he is a player with a very bright future and bigger stages await.
