The gambling industry is promoting a week of safer gambling this week with messages to the fore across all of its promotional channels.
Sport for Business members BoyleSports and Paddy Power are are backing the initiative which comes at a time when the spotlight on the ease of gambling, and the problems it can lead to has never been more intense.
The cross-industry week of promotion runs from today, November 1st until Sunday November 7th and Ireland’s largest retail bookmakers have given their full backing to the initiative, which will be supported by sustained campaigns on both online platforms and retail.
BoyleSports will be publishing details across social media channels offering customers advice on safer gambling, driving awareness of how to gamble more safely, promoting tools that are available to help people gamble safely all year round and highlighting sources of further advice and support.
Their network of retail outlets will also be supporting the campaign by promoting safer gambling messages on in-store screens, distributing information leaflets and displaying posters in the windows of all shops in Ireland and the UK.
The first banner on the company website is promoting the different initiatives and there are links provided to the Dunlewey Centre here in Ireland. It operates Gambling Care, an initiative to assist problem gamblers established in 2019 with funding provided by the betting industry.
The GAA and FAI have chosen to turn away any gambling related sponsorship but the industry is a major backer of sport, especially the English Premier League where a majority of teams play wearing betting branded team shirts.
Both Paddy Power and Boylesports are heavyweight advertisers around sporting programmes with racing and football programmes on RTÉ and Virgin Media supported by their sponsorship.
