Drogheda United will host Shamrock Rovers in the Second Round of the Extra.ie FAI Cup 2022 as the draw took place at FAI HQ yesterday afternoon.

The draw was made by former Sligo Rovers player Alan Keane and former Drogheda United player Declan Fabio O’Brien.

Non-league sides Bonagee United and Lucan United both received home ties against SSE Airtricity League Premier Division teams Shelbourne FC and Bohemian FC respectively.

Derry City and Cork City is another tie that catches the eye. There will be a new name on the Cup this year with last year’s winner St Patrick’s Athletic bowing out to Waterford in the first round at the weekend. They were rewarded with a trip to Malahide United with all games to be played during the last weekend in August.

In draws for the European competitions Shamrock Rovers, St Patrick’s Athletic and Sligo Rovers now know their pathway to the group stages of either the Europa or Europa Conference Leagues.

Rovers host North Macedonian champions Shkupi in the first leg of the third qualifying round of the Europa League at Tallaght Stadium on Thursday before the return leg takes place next Tuesday.

A win will guarantee a Conference League group stage place, but they will also have a shot at the higher grade group stage against the loser of Qarabağ FK and Ferencváros from Turkey.

St Patrick’s Athletic have to defeat Bulgaria’s CSKA Sofia and then either Brondby of Denmark or FC Basel in the Conference League play-off.

If Sligo Rovers progress past Viking FK over the next week, they will play Slovakia’s Dunajská Streda or Romania’s FCSB for their place in the Group stage.
