Olytico’s analysis of Irish Sport on Social Media for December 2025 covers 10,100 posts, 2.6 million public engagements, and close to 10 million TikTok views.

While overall social activity dipped across platforms, X (-15%), Facebook (-13%), and TikTok (-18%) standout moments, major announcements, and big-hitting performances still cut through – from potential World Cup opponents to record-breaking swims and viral rugby clips.

Total TikTok views are up significantly from less than 8 million a year ago to close to 10 million in December 2025, reflecting a shift in engagement dynamics across social media channels.

Today, in the second of four articles on the Social Media metrics from last month, we are focusing on Facebook, and a bounce back in terms of engagement numbers.

In the infographics below, we have ranked each organisation across a range of metrics for each network, including the most active, the most engaged, the most engaging content, and, where possible, engagements per 1,000 followers.

It is important to note that this analysis is based on publicly available data. It does not include any analysis or insight into paid or promoted content. When % figures are used (unless otherwise stated), they refer to the previous month’s figures.

Here is how our monthly report coverage will look this week.

December 2025 Highlights on Facebook

Facebook activity fell 13% in December (in addition to the 15% drop off seen in November) with a 55% drop in engagements to 515,266.

A similar comparison to X from last year shows, contrary to those numbers, that Facebook has bounced back in terms of engagement from a low point last year of 348,704.

The NIFL (524, +1%) topped the Facebook activity charts for the second month in a row, followed by the League of Ireland (339, -7%) in second, and the Ladies Gaelic Football account (255, -16%) in third.

Volleyball Ireland (41, +413%) looked forward to European volleyball returning to Dublin in January, as they host the first-ever double gender U18 SCA Championship, with both Men’s and Women’s National Teams competing on home soil.

IWA-Sport (56, +87%) shared their highlights of the Year, with this post focusing on The Rebel Wheelers as they became the first Irish team to enter the Euro Cup.

A hat-trick for rugby saw Irish Rugby (1,161, -38%) top the engagement per post charts, as they were placed in Pool D along with Scotland, Uruguay and Portugal for the 2027 Men’s Rugby World Cup, followed by Leinster Rugby (431, +28%) as All Black Rieko Ioane made his debut, and Ulster Rugby (411,-3%) as they claimed the bragging rights in Galway with a victory over Connacht.

Golf Ireland (73, +232%) celebrated as Lauren Walsh secured her LPGA Tour status for 2026 , and Horse Sport Ireland (236, +171%) bought us footage from the London International Horse Show.

Squash Ireland (1,670) once again topped the average engagements per 1,000 followers metric.

The BKT United Rugby Championship posted the most engaged with content on Facebook in December as Scottish referee Hollie Davidson found herself right in the middle of the action during an Investec Champions Cup match – the post has generated over 6,000 public engagements and the footage has been viewed over 850,000 times to date (link).
