Greyhound Stadia across Ireland are to host “Jerseys At The Dogs,” for a second year, in continued support of the Dillon Quirke Foundation.
From 1st – 7th April on designated nights at each location, fans are invited to attend the races wearing their sports jerseys of choice and contribute to this noble cause. There will also be an online donation element for those who cannot make it to the Stadia.
Last year the initiative raised over €10,000 for the Foundation.
Dillon Quirke was 24 when he collapsed during a hurling match and died of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS) on 5th August 2022 in Semple Stadium, Thurles.
The Foundation was subsequently established by Dillon’s family – his parents Dan and Hazel, and his sisters Shannon and Kellie – with the aim of funding widespread cardiac screening for young people (aged 12-18) involved in sport.
Their aim is to prevent other families from going through what they have experienced and, in the process, save lives.
To support their fundraising efforts, and in recognition of the strong ties between the GAA and Greyhound Racing Community. Greyhound Stadia are once again joining forces to raise funds to support the foundations aims.
“We are thrilled to see ‘Jerseys At The Dogs’ return for its second year,” said Dan Quirke. “Last year’s event was a tremendous success, and we are grateful for the ongoing support from Greyhound Stadia and sports fans nationwide.”
“We’re excited to build upon the success of last year’s event,” said Tim Lucey, CEO of Greyhound Racing Ireland.
“The enthusiasm and generosity shown by fans last year were inspiring, and we look forward to another impactful event in support of the Dillon Quirke Foundation.”
“To amplify awareness and encourage participation, the hashtag #JerseysAtTheDogs will be utilised across social media platforms. Supporters are encouraged to share their jersey-wearing moments, spread the word about the event, and inspire others to contribute.”
“Together, we can make an even greater impact and carry forward Dillon’s legacy, which will ultimately benefit all children who play sport across Ireland.”
