Ireland’s senior men’s and women’s basketball teams will return to the court on July 26th, with a high-profile international double header against Norway at the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght, as part of the newly launched ‘JYSK Summer Series’.
The women’s game will tip off at 4pm, followed by the men’s international at 7pm, offering fans a rare chance to see both national teams in action on the same day.
The event is backed by home furnishings retailer JYSK, which has been a growing presence in Ireland since opening its first store here in 2019.
“JYSK is delighted to support Ireland’s international teams with this double header,” said Roni Tuominen, Country Director for JYSK Ireland & UK. “We’ve witnessed the huge progress that Irish basketball has made in that time. The ‘JYSK Summer Series’ will provide vital preparation for both teams as they get set for FIBA EuroBasket qualifiers in November.”
Basketball Ireland’s Head of Commercial and Brand, Gus Lewis, welcomed the new partnership, highlighting the synergy between the organisations.
“We’re really pleased to have JYSK on board. They have a clear passion and drive for success, an ethos which is mirrored by Irish basketball. These games will provide a strong test for both teams, with Ireland and Norway closely matched in the FIBA World Rankings.”
Ciaron Hearns, Commercial Sales & Marketing Manager for JYSK Ireland & UK, added:
“Irish basketball matches the growth and ambition that JYSK has. We can’t wait to see the best of Irish basketball talent on the court in July.”
Tickets for the double header are priced at €45 (family), €20 (adult), €15 (student/OAP) and €10 (U16). Members of Basketball Ireland’s Courtside platform will have early access from 5pm on Monday, June 30th, with general sale opening at 10am on Tuesday, July 1st via ireland.basketball/tickets.
The event follows encouraging signs for both Irish teams. The men’s side picked up three wins in their recent FIBA Basketball World Cup qualifying campaign, while the women’s team came close to an upset against world number 29 Latvia in their last EuroBasket fixture in February.
Women’s head coach James Weldon, who has extended his role ahead of the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2027 qualifiers, emphasised the importance of the Norway fixture.
“This game will be a crucial building block. Several of our athletes have just signed with NCAA colleges, underlining the talent coming through. The Norway match comes just days after the EuroBasket draw and offers an ideal platform for preparation.”
