Laya Healthcare has announced a new partnership with Seanchoíche, the acclaimed storytelling and spoken-word series, in a move aimed at tackling one of Ireland’s most pressing but often hidden challenges – loneliness.

Research shows that almost six in ten people in Ireland (59%) experience loneliness at least once a month, with more than half saying it damages their self-esteem and contributes to increased anxiety and depression.

Recognising the impact of this issue on health and wellbeing, Laya Healthcare is partnering with Seanchoíche to launch a three-part “Connect” event series, designed to bring people together through rugby and live storytelling.

The first event will take place at Bective Rugby Club with Leinster Rugby on October 15th. Tickets, priced at €15 plus booking fee, will go on general sale from September 18th.

Further events are planned in Connacht, Munster and Leinster during the 2025/26 rugby season.

“Loneliness is one of the biggest hidden health challenges in Ireland. It has a direct impact on mental wellbeing, with links to lower confidence, increased anxiety and depression,” said Rebecca Trevor, Head of Marketing at laya healthcare.

“Partnering with Seanchoíche allows us to create spaces where people can come together, connect and share – something we believe is fundamental to good health.”

Seanchoíche, founded by Ciaran Gaffney, has become one of Ireland’s most sought-after cultural experiences, with tickets for its regular storytelling nights selling out within minutes.

“Seanchoíche has always been about connection through stories. This partnership with Laya Healthcare and rugby brings that to a wider audience and creates moments that people genuinely need,” said Gaffney.

The initiative forms part of Laya Healthcare’s wider “We are One. Always.” campaign with Connacht, Leinster, and Munster Rugby, which is dedicated to creating inclusive and welcoming experiences for fans and communities, while tackling isolation through the unifying power of sport.

Tickets for the Leinster event on October 15th will be available from www.seanchoiche.com/events starting September 18th.
