Leinster Rugby has officially launched its 2026 Summer Camps in partnership with Syracuse University, bringing the province’s player development model to young athletes in the United States.

Now in its fourth year, the programme will take place on the Syracuse University campus in New York from July 26 to 31, offering both residential and day-camp options for boys and girls aged 12 to 18.

The launch was supported by two of Leinster’s and Ireland’s leading international players, Ryan Baird and Eve Higgins, underscoring the ambition behind a partnership that has become an increasingly important part of Leinster Rugby’s international footprint.

The camps sit within Leinster Rugby’s School of Excellence partnership with Syracuse University and form part of a broader strategy to build the club’s presence in North America, at a time when rugby is gathering momentum in the United States ahead of the men’s and women’s Rugby World Cups in 2031 and 2033.

The Blueprint

Operating under the banner of “The Blueprint”, the camps introduce American participants to key elements of Leinster Rugby’s player development philosophy.

The programme is designed to give young athletes an immersive experience of what a week in the life of a professional rugby player is like, combining technical skills, teamwork, decision-making, athletic development, and structured progression.

Elite Leinster Rugby coaching staff will travel from Dublin to Syracuse to deliver the programme, using the same development principles that have helped shape one of the most successful rugby pathways in Europe.

For parents in the United States, Ireland and further afield, the partnership brings together Leinster Rugby’s coaching expertise with Syracuse University’s athletic and academic facilities, creating a structured and aspirational sporting environment.

Player Pathway

Ryan Baird, who came through the Leinster Academy system before establishing himself as a Leinster and Ireland forward, said the camps offered young players access to a development model that had shaped his own career.

“We are incredibly excited to bring Leinster Rugby’s proven development pathway directly to Syracuse,” he said.

“As someone who came through the Leinster Academy system myself, I know firsthand how powerful this Blueprint is in shaping young athletes. It’s about building skills, confidence, and a lifelong love of the game that has given me so much.”

Eve Higgins, a Leinster playmaker, Ireland international and 2024 Paris Olympian with Ireland Rugby Sevens, said the camps could play an important role in introducing more young people to the game.

“There is growing interest in rugby across the United States, and these camps provide an opportunity for young players to learn new skills, meet experienced coaches, and experience the game in a fun and positive environment,” she said.

“I was lucky enough to spend my summers attending Leinster Rugby summer camps, so for anyone completely new to the sport or looking to sharpen their skills, the camps are the best way for kids to learn from the best and challenge themselves in a completely new way.”

Syracuse Partnership

Allen Groves, Syracuse University’s Chief Student Experience Officer, said the partnership reflected shared values around sport, education and personal development.

“We are delighted to launch this year’s Leinster Rugby Camps at Syracuse University and to continue our exceptional partnership with one of the most respected high-performance rugby organisations in the world,” he said.

“This initiative will provide young athletes across the United States with access to world-class coaching, while showcasing the values of teamwork, leadership, and personal development that are at the heart of sport.

“Our Leinster/SU partnership creates an unparalleled opportunity for young players, including those new to rugby, and their families to engage with the game in a meaningful and inspiring way.”

Philip Lawlor, Head of Rugby Development at Leinster Rugby, said the camps had grown significantly since their launch.

“Now entering its fourth year, the Leinster Rugby camps have gone from strength to strength, growing significantly in both quality and impact,” he said.

“What started as a promising initiative has developed into a flagship programme, driven by the strong partnership between Syracuse University and Leinster Rugby.”

More than 400 athletes from over 20 states have taken part in the camps to date, with Leinster Rugby targeting a capacity of more than 250 youth athletes in 2026.

Spaces are being limited to protect the quality of the coaching environment and maintain a low coach-to-player ratio.

The 2026 Leinster Rugby Summer Camps at Syracuse University are open to boys and girls aged 12 to 18, across all skill levels from beginners to advanced players.

Irish parents looking to register their child can do so through the Leinster Syracuse Total Camps registration portal.
