The 2023 Liffey Descent will take place at the earlier than usual date of May 6th this year.
The new spring date was arrived at following consultation across the paddling community and with a view to ensuring the best possible water levels and weather conditions for one of the biggest water events of the year. Last year’s return after Covid took place in September.
A long-time highlight on both the domestic and international marathon racing calendar, this year promises a return to the top-level racing and fantastic community involvement that gives the Liffey Descent its status.
It was first run in 1960 as part of the programme for the Dublin Boat Show. In the modern era, it has over 500 competitors, thousands of spectators along the route, and a very slick new website for entries to be made.
The race will feature the regular and stunning 30km route along the river Liffey, taking in the surroundings and the thrills of 10 weirs along the route through Kildare and Dublin, with the backing of Sport Ireland and the local authorities of both counties.
Sport for Business Perspective:
Thrills and spills are pretty much guaranteed for an event that shows off the best of what Ireland has to offer on the water.
