Lithuania is reported to have become the fourth country to have commenced vaccination its Olympic and Paralympic athletes, coaches and support teams against the Coronavirus.
It began the programme of vaccinating approximately 290 individuals with the Astra Zenica Vaccine last week and anticipated that the rollout will be completed by the end of this month.
They are the fourth country to have publicly stated that they are vaccination the athletes with Israel, Serbia and Hungary doing likewise.
Israel has completed almost 70 per cent of vaccination of its total population, while Serbia is at around 9 per cent.
Both Lithuania (5.02 per cent) and Hungary (4.26 per cent) are below Ireland which has achieved 5.2 per cent and the United Kingdom which is at over 20 per cent.
The International Olympic Committee has not pressed for any favourable treatment for athletes and has also said that vaccination will not be a requirement for athletes to compete.
Most countries National Olympic Committee’s are saying that the athletes will take their place in the rollout and have not suggested any jumping the queue even though the numbers of individuals involved are very small as a proportion of the overall population.
