It was a privilege to host the first gathering of The Sports Technology Alliance in Dublin this week.
Sport:80, etrainu, Joymo, and Spotler are the core companies that have created the Alliance to share best practices and lived experiences across the many sporting organisations they work with across the globe.
Previous events in London and Manchester have set the tone, and this was a first visit to Dublin, on the way to hosting a similar gathering of technology and sport in Denver at the end of this month.
First-party Data, engagement, growth, AI adoption, and safeguarding were all on the agenda for representatives from a host of sporting bodies.
“It was inspiring to see so many passionate professionals come together to share insights, challenges, and solutions,” said Samantha Vincent of Sport:80 after the event.
I kicked off the morning with a one-to-one interview with Enda Lynch, CEO of Badminton Ireland, to discuss how he has sought to empower his team through enabling technology that has allowed the sport to grow rapidly here, while ensuring that all governance requirements are met.
Carl Grieves of Spotler took us through some real-life examples of the use of Artificial Intelligence in assisting with administration.
We explored, in a series of workshops, the challenges faced by sports in areas such as continuous education of volunteers, building value for sponsors, and more.
Everyone left with a clear sense that the tools to help us work smarter and deliver sport as well as we can are there; we just need to know how to ask the right questions.
With our own Future Proofing Irish Sport event already in the books from last month, and an appearance with Mark Hill of Kitman Labs on the main stage of the Analytics Summit at the Convention Centre next week, the world of hi-tech enablement is an increasingly significant part of our daily activities.
