Cavan’s Leona Maguire has been the star of the show in a gripping first two days of golf action at the Solheim Cup in Toledo over the weekend.
She is the only player to have competed in all four sessions and has repaid the faith of her Captain Catriona Matthew with 3.5 points from a possible four.
That has been the difference in Europe taking a 9-7 lead into today’s 12 singles matches.
The tournament was held here in Ireland 10 years ago and provides every bit of gripping drama that we have grown accustomed to in the Men’s Ryder Cup.
It is Labour Day weekend in the United States which gives us the pleasure of a clear run at the TV sporting schedule as the tournament heads to the wire.
Full coverage will be shown on Sky Sports this evening with the first pairing of Anna Nordquist and Lexi Thompson getting started at 12.05 PM local time, and coverage beginning here at 4:30 PM.
Maguire will face fellow rookie Jennifer Kupcho in the third match starting here at 5:25 PM. They will be followed onto the course ten minutes later by World Number One Nelly Korda against Georgia Hall.
Europe needs to secure five points to retain the trophy and an additional half to score back to back wins.
They have only won once previously on American soil when captain Matthew sank the winning putt.
It promises to be electric viewing through the evening.
