
This time last year plans to bring Barcelona to the City fell foul of FAI contractual obligations but no such difficulties are expected for the Sunday night game at the home of Munster Rugby.
City are currently in pre-season training in Austria and they will then fly to China for a friendlies against Arsenal and the Malaysian national team in the Birds Nest Stadium in Beijing.
The game against Limerick FC who are top of the Airtricity League First Division, will be their last scheduled game before the curtain raising FA Community Shield against Chelsea at Wembley Stadium on August 12th.
Tickets will be priced between €10 and €30 and it is hoped their will be a capacity crowd of 26,000 at Thomond Park. Limerick FC Chairman Pat O’Sullivan estimates that the one game alone will be worth in the region of €10 million to the economy of the city.
The game will be the first in a series of eight games hosted by Limerick over the next eight years that has been sanctioned by the FAI.
