Viewers in Ireland will have a choice of where to watch with eir Sport having signed a renewal on their right to broadcast all the way through from the Par Three tournament on the Wednesday to the final holes on Sunday night.
2017 will be the final year of Sky TV and BBC Sport’s shared coverage deal and could be the end of an era for the British national broadcaster.
Last year’s tournament was the only Live golf coverage it carried in 2016, having given up coverage of the Open Championship and if that goes there will be no ‘free to air’ opportunity to watch in Ireland.
eir Sport is available free to eir Broadband customers and to direct subscribers on the Sky platform and others though not yet through Virgin TV who remain in deadlock over the carrying of the channels as an option for their subscribers.
“We are honoured to continue our live coverage of the Masters on eir Sport,” said Brian Quinn, Operations Director at eir Sport.
“Golf fans in Ireland look forward with great anticipation to the year’s first major and seeing Augusta National in full bloom each April is always worth the wait.”
“We see the Masters as the pinnacle of the golfing year and we are thrilled to be able to bring this to our customers.”
