There was little surprise but also nothing but wild enthusiasm when Rhys McClenaghan was named the Gymnast of the Year for the seventh consecutive year at the 2024 Gymnastics Ireland National Awards in partnership with Marsh

On a memorable early evening in Paris in the summer he became Ireland’s first ever Olympic Champion during the Paris 2024 Games.

Men’s Artistic Gymnast James Hickey was named the 2024 Rising Star after finishing 6th on pommel at the 2024 Junior European Championships.

Coach Luke Carson was named 2024 Coach of the Year – for his contribution in the Men’s Olympics Programme and outstanding delivery that saw McClenaghan taking Gold at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

It was a busy night with 19 other awards and recognition for individuals and clubs covering a variety of different areas within the sport.

Gymnastics stars, VIPs and fans alike celebrated the historic achievements of the sport from participation through to performance from club level through to national, international and Olympic level of 2024 at the Radisson Blu, Golden Lane in Dublin.

The National Awards is an event designed to reward all those stand out performers and contributors to the sport of gymnastics throughout the year.

SPORT FOR BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE

Rhys and Luke deserve all the accolades but is also important for them to be there, as they were, to be part of the more minor and more local heroes that form the foundation of the sport

WHAT’S UP NEXT?

The National Series of events takes place at the Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena between the 22nd and 23rd of March.
