Executives at Microsoft will doubtless have been celebrating Chelsea’s victory in the UEFA Champions’ League last Saturday as players from the team will be central to a major marketing campaign for the company’s X Box tapping into the appeal of this year’s summer of sport.
The ‘Summer of Sports’ campaign, run in partnership with the Right To Play charity, will also feature an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest simultaneous 100 metre sprint.
A series of ads on platforms controlled by Microsoft, including Xbox Live and MSN will promote the attempt and encourage participation from across Europe, Africa and the Middle East. A number of Chelsea stars including goalkeeper Petr Cech and goalscoring hero Didier Drogba will feature in videos and there is also the prospect of gamers getting to meet stars from Chelsea and the British Olympic team to play games against them.
Right to PLay is the official charity partner of Chelsea and works in some of the world’s harshest environment to build pitches and find spaces where children can come together through playing sport.
