Munster GAA recorded an increase in ticket sales last year of €1.5 million recording €8,011,896 across all competitions.

The strength of the Munster Hurling Championship is evident in the €6.7 million in ticket sales for the 11 games with sell out matches at SuperValu Pairc Uí Chaoimh boosting the numbers from 2023’s €5.3 million.

The Football Championship had more modest numbers with €526,346 taken in across the five games played to get Kerry to their 84th title.

In his report to next Weekend’s Munster GAA Convention in Tralee, Ceo Kieran Leddy talks about the need for GAA to be embraced within the new model of multi-sport facilities that are increasingly favoured by Government and local authorities.

“In the past our desire to build our own facilities was very strong,” he writes. “But in the modern world this is not always practical. Land in urban areas is scarce now so facilities need to take on a multi-sport model.”

“So good has the GAA been at providing its own facilities, that local authorities have built municipal facilities that have excluded Gaelic games, simply because the playing areas provided in these municipal facilities are too small to cater for Gaelic games.”

SPORT FOR BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE

Great to see the increase in revenue and with at least another three games to be played at SuperValu Pairc Uí Chaoimh this season that is likely to remain the case.  Interesting point on the multi-sport model as well though this may be more for training facilities and the provision of gaelic games posts as the additional 40% of land area need for a Gaelic pitch over a football or rugby one is a material inhibitor.
