The FAI has doubled down on its consultancy options in the commercial area by appointing Murray Barnett as a consultant working across the Marketing and Communications departments.

He joins Jonathan Neill, former Head of Barclays Sponsorship programme, who was revealed in a role as Commercial Consultant earlier this month on Sport for Business.

A leading marketing and communications expert with a strong commercial background, Barnett will take up his new consultancy role with immediate effect.

He will review and support all marketing and communications activity as the Association separately begins the recruitment process for a new Marketing and Communications Director role and for a Commercial Director.

Barnett is a sports marketing expert with a blue-chip pedigree having worked with some of the biggest names in sports including Formula 1, World Rugby and ESPN.

As Director of Global Partnerships at Formula 1, he oversaw the delivery of a number of new partnerships from Amazon Web Services to Aramco, Formula 1 Managements’ largest every commercial partnership.

At World Rugby, as Chief Commercial Officer, he was responsible for all commercial aspects of the Rugby World Cup, Women’s Rugby World Cup and Sevens.

“I am delighted about the opportunity to advise and support the activities of the FAI at this exciting time,” he said this afternoon.

“The work that’s going into further developing the sport at all levels in Ireland is impressive and I look forward to bringing my knowledge to enhance the organisation’s activities.”

“Murray’s diverse experience with a number of top rights holders will be crucial in helping us to meet our strategic goals.,” added FAI CEO Jonathan Hill.

“He brings unique insight and will be invaluable in developing our marketing and communications approach.”

 Sport for Business Perspective

Barnett, Neill and Hill in commercial terms is the equivalent of having Kane, Mbappe and Chiellini as the spine of your team going out searching for a partner to replace Three.  It does not guarantee the ball hitting the back of the net but it certainly makes it more likely than not.”

“A powerful and influential network of information and collaboration”
