Most sporting headlines surround elite activity but it is at the participation level that most public funding goes and one of the biggest engagement series of recent years is back in 2015 looking to reach out to as many as 20,000 cyclists across the country.

The An Post Cycle Series has successfully appealed across different sporting ambassadors to promote this years five events taking place in Sligo, Clare, Meath, Waterford and Cork between May 2nd and September 12th.

Last year’s event attracted 16,800 to take part bringing the total over six years to 73,000 and cycling’s appeal to the masses continues to grow.

All Ireland Hurler JJ Delaney, 400 metre runner Marian Heffernan and cycling legend Sean Kelly have been joined in promoting this year’s events by comedian PJ Gallagher and musician Bressie looking to appeal to a record number of participants.

The event is supported by the Irish Sports Council and backed by An Post as part of it’s long term commitment to the sport at all levels.

Last month the campaign won recognition as the best example of business to community sponsorship at the European Sponsorship Awards.

“The Cycle Series is an event for everybody, all ages and all fitness levels, and is all about encouraging people to get active through cycling and developing habits of regular exercise which will ultimately lead to enhanced quality of life,” said Irish Sports Council CEO John Treacy, speaking at the launch of the 2015 series.
