Cycling in IrelandAn Irish insurance company has launched a new spin off specifically to cover bicycle insurance. Bicycleinsurance.ie is part of Blue Insurances who specialise in travel insurance but have launched with an impressive SEO campaign that sees them appearing in Google ads wherever you look.

The company claims to have a low cost model that will insure a bike for theft, damage, mechanical failure and more from as little as €1.99 a month.

Cycling Ireland promotes a scheme with Cyclesure.ie that taps into the company that covers it’s UK equivalent membership body.

Insurance comparisons are notoriously difficult with each company providing different levels of cover, restrictions and terms but a snap quote search this morning on a bike valued at €800 suggests that the two companies are broadly similar in terms of their offer.

What the new arrival will do though is bring greater awareness to a market which is expanding rapidly both for sporting, commuting and leisure pursuits, and which is probably very underserved in terms of specific insurance take up.

“We are delighted to announce the launch of our new product,” said Ciaran Mulligan, Blue Insurances managing director.
“There is definitely a gap in the market for competitive bicycle insurance and we are delighted to be able to fill it by offering comprehensive cover.”
“These days, insurance is extremely important as cyclists are spending more and more on their bicycles, meaning they stand to lose a great deal should they fall victim to any unfortunate incidents. If they are unfortunate enough to have to claim, then another benefit is that they can avoid claiming under their household policy which won’t affect their home insurance renewal,” Mulligan said.
