Newstalk 106-108 fm and Barnardos have joined forces to launch ‘Go Green for June 14’ – a day-long fund raising initiative tied into support of the Republic of Ireland team in their Euro 2012 clash with Spain in Gdansk.
The radio station and the charity are urging people, businesses, employers and employees across the country to “go green”.
“We want everyone to wear something green on Thursday to support the Irish team in their Euro 2012 campaign in Poland,” said Emma Gavagan of Newstalk. “For a small donation of €2 to Barnardos, you can wear your green football jerseys, t-shirts, hats, shorts, wigs or whatever you like to work, school, college or home.”
The initiative links a strong fundraising network with the power of a national broadcast partner and will ‘piggyback’ the national mood of wanting to support the team.
Newstalk does not have broadcast rights to the games but has reached out to a loyal sports audience through the ‘Off the Ball’ presenters on air and through social media. The channel regularly features John Giles and has also teamed up with fellow RTE panellist Richard Sadlier to promote this charity initiative.
The game against Spain will be broadcast live on RTE with kick off at 1945.
