Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Michael Ring launched The Morton Games yesterday saying “This great event continues to grow and has become one of the premier track and field events in the country. The range of athletes competing this year shows that the Morton Games is an important event.”
Olympic
Olympic medallists Francis Obikwelu, Manteo Mitchell, Jarrin Solomon and John Steffensen have already been confirmed and will be among at least ten Olympians competing in the Meet.
They will be from countries including Brazil, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Bahrain, South Africa and from all over Europe.
Confirmed top Irish participants include Mark English, Paul Robinson, Brian Gregan, Kelly Proper and Steven Colvert.
International
“The Morton Games is one of the best events in the International athletics calendar,” said English.
“I have great memories from last year when I broke the stadium record for 800m, there is a top class field this year and hopefully I can break the Irish record this time round.”
“The Morton Games will be a big stepping stone on the way to the European Athletics Championships in Zurich this August.”
The Morton Games will provide Dublin’s annual celebration of international athletic achievement. The international programme gets under way at 7 p.m. with the feature Morton Mile taking place at 9 p.m.
