Electric Ireland Smarter Living Sponsorship to Energise Team Ireland for Rio 2016

Electric Ireland is to be the main commercial partner of Team Ireland as it prepares to deliver at the Rio Olympic Games in August 2016.

This is a renewal of a partnership that was used to launch the Electric Ireland brand in 2012 but this time around the dynamic of what sport delivers to the brand has changed.

“Back then it was all about awareness of a new brand within the ESB,” said ESB CEO Pat O’Doherty last night.

“That climbed from less than 30% at the time of the deal to higher than 80% by the time Katie Taylor struck gold in London.”

#SmarterLiving

“This time around the goal is to push customers and the company into a mindset of #smarterliving,” he added and the stars who followed him on stage for the launch in Dublin last night were certainly on message throughout.

A powerful video highlighting Irish achievement at the Olympics was certainly enough to blow away any ennui from the previous day’s rugby disappointment and there was a stellar cast of those whose hopes and dreams will become ours through two weeks next summer.

Katie Taylor is bidding to become the first Double Olympic Gold Medallist in Women’s boxing while Paddy Barnes is determined to make sure that his record attempt at a third successive medal ends in the ultimate prize of gold.

Natalya Coyle and Aileen Reid spoke warmly of the lessons they learned from competing in London and how they hope to push from top ten to top three on the biggest stage of all.

Thomas Barr will be at the Games for the first time in 2016 and his enthusiasm to be part of Team Ireland was infectious.

The evening finished with MC Damien O’Meara enjoying a sit down chat with Irish Golf’s Team Leader Paul McGinley.

Promise

He will be travelling out to inspect the recently finished Olympic Golf Course in February and has promised his likely teams of Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry, Leona Maguire and Stephanie Meadow that he will prepare a full file on every aspect of it which they can use to help prepare.

The Electric Ireland campaign will demonstrate the value of smarter living through profiling the lifestyles and technological innovations that Olympic hopefuls choose for health fitness, performance and energy.  the programme will start in early 2016 though with Electric Ireland coming along tho our Digital Future of Sport event tomorrow we may be able to get a sneak preview of what that will look like.

If you’re not able to make it you will be able to follow some of the highlights through our dedicated Fan Hub which will be live throughout the morning.
