Active South Dublin, the sport and recreation arm of South Dublin Co. Co. (SDCC) is
proud to announce the launch of Ireland’s first Omnigym outdoor gym at Greentrees Park, a residential green area in Perrystown, Dublin 12.
The opening event will take place on Friday, September 12th. The outdoor gym is free and easy to use, inclusive, and open to all, regardless of activity level, supporting SDCC’s mission to improve accessibility to physical activity and empower residents to lead active lifestyles.
The launch of the Omnigym aligns with Active South Dublin’s activity strategy and Sport Ireland’s Active Cities project, focusing on activating people where they live, keeping young people active for their health and wellbeing, activating older adults and less able-bodied, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for women to feel confident engaging in physical activity. Designed with safety and accessibility in mind, Omnigym’s biomechanically engineered equipment ensures a secure and enjoyable experience for all members of the community.
“This is a milestone for Dublin and for Ireland’s approach to promoting active and inclusive communities, says Thomas McDermott, Head of Sport and Recreation, Active South Dublin.
“Our goal is to create places where everyone, young and old, can be active, empowered, and supported in a safe and inclusive environment. The Omnigym at Greentrees Park is an exciting step toward that vision.”
The outdoor gym includes four pieces of equipment, one of which is a free-access machine designed specifically for wheelchair users. This enables people of all abilities to exercise at their own pace in a welcoming, open-air community setting.
Its inclusive design supports safe participation for older adults, beginners, and seasoned enthusiasts alike. The outdoor gym usage is measured with sensors. Instructions are available via QR code.
Funding for the Omnigym equipment was provided by the Dept of Culture, Communications & Sport through its Participation Nation grant scheme.
