Shamrock Rovers captain and Cape Verde international Pico Lopes has been named a new brand ambassador for Level Health.
Lopes will feature in national campaigns for Level Health as well as digital content, event appearances and community initiatives.
The partnership will highlight the insurer’s preventative healthcare offering, family cover, and QuickClinic service, which gives members rapid access to a doctor.
The attraction lies as much in Lopes’ personal story as in his profile on the pitch.
The Dublin-born defender has followed a less conventional route to the highest level, combining football with a career outside the game before establishing himself as a central figure at Shamrock Rovers and going on to represent Cape Verde internationally.
His progress to a World Cup stage gives the partnership a natural theme of persistence, self-improvement, and the idea that progress can happen at different stages of life.
That fits with Level Health’s positioning to make healthcare more accessible and encourage people to think about their health before problems arise.
Ruth Bailey, Chief Commercial Officer at Level Health, said Lopes’ journey closely mirrors the company’s outlook.
“Pico’s story resonates with us. He’s taken his own path, continually pushed himself to improve, and stayed grounded in his family and community.
“That reflects Level Health’s belief in making things simpler, smarter and better for people. We’re delighted to have him on board.”
Lopes said the partnership also reflected lessons from his own career.
“My career probably hasn’t followed the route people expect. I’ve had to be patient, keep working and take opportunities when they’ve come.
“Getting the chance to represent Cape Verde and play at a World Cup has shown me that it’s never too late to aim for something better. I’m delighted to be working with Level Health on this ambassadorship.”
Sport for Business Perspective
The appointment gives Level Health a recognisable sporting figure with strong connections to both Dublin and international football at a time when health insurers are increasingly looking beyond traditional advertising and towards partnerships built around prevention, accessibility and everyday wellbeing.
The partnership’s strongest element is the fit between the ambassador and the message.
Rather than relying solely on sporting success, Level Health is using Lopes’ wider story—patience, resilience, family, and gradual progression—to support a proposition focused on long-term health care.
That gives the campaign more depth than a simple endorsement and creates scope for Level Health to use Lopes across advertising, content, community activity and health education.
