Irish rugby star Simon Zebo is pictured above with young supporters Logan and Aoibhinn O’Sullivan at Virgin Media Park for the launch of GOAL’s Jersey Day 2025, the national fundraising day taking place on Friday, October 10th.

Now in its 37th year, Jersey Day invites communities, schools, clubs and workplaces to don their favourite sports colours and donate to GOAL’s life-saving humanitarian programmes across 14 countries in Africa, the Middle East and Latin America.

This year’s campaign is sponsored by Premier Sports, whose backing will help amplify the call across rugby and football coverage through the autumn.

Last year’s edition drew over 40,000 participants from 120 businesses and 420 schools, raising €240,000.

With Premier Sports on board, GOAL has set a €250,000 target for 2025, with funds directed to vulnerable communities, including those in Gaza and Sudan.

Zebo described the campaign as tapping into Ireland’s deep connection with sport and community.

“We’ve all got that one jersey soaked in memories. I’m calling on everyone to wear their colours and rally teammates, classmates and colleagues. It’s not just about the jersey, it’s about standing together to raise vital funds for GOAL.”

Nafisa Brennan, GOAL’s Senior Fundraising Manager, described Jersey Day as “a national celebration of togetherness, solidarity and sport,” adding that all registrants this year will be entered into a draw to win two tickets for Ireland vs Portugal in the World Cup qualifier at the Aviva Stadium on Thursday, 13 November, plus a signed Ireland men’s jersey.

Premier Sports will promote the campaign across its coverage of the Investec Champions Cup, URC, and UEFA competitions, helping bring Jersey Day to a wider audience.

You may also see it on Sport for Business regularly in the coming weeks, and we’ll feature a special gallery of all our members who get involved.

How to get involved

When:

Schools take part on Friday, 10 October.

Businesses can choose any day in October to participate.

Register: Sign up at jerseyday.org (supported by Premier Sports).

What to do: Wear any sports jersey (GAA, soccer, rugby, basketball, hockey or whatever excites you) and make a donation to GOAL.

Share it: Post photos and stories using #GOALJerseyDay to inspire others to join.

Now the only thing to decide is which of the many jerseys to dust down, realising that the pro fit might no longer be the best fit, but blaming it on shrinkage rather than expansion…
