Premier Sports, the Irish based sports broadcaster run by Mickey O’Rourke is to return to UK screens after an agreement to buy back the rights it had sold to nordic group Viaplay last year for an estimated €35 million.
Premier Sports retained the rights to Irish broadcast so has remained on screen here throughout.
It broadcasts Italian Serie A, Spanish La Liga and Scottish FA and League Cup football as well as the United Rugby Championship and a variety of other sports.
Among the broadcasters who have remained with the Irish operation are Eoin McDevitt and Ryle Nugent.
Viaplay decided to retrench retaining only its original Nordic and Duth operations leaving a potential headache for the United Rugby Championship in particular but Premier Sports return to UK screens will be a welcome one.
It will be back on Sky, Virgin, Amazon Prime and Apple services there and is also understood to be preparing for the launch of an enhanced streaming service.
