President Michael D Higgins is used to looking up to Rugby players on the red carpet at the Aviva Stadium but he will be stretching further on the night of January 28th as he attends the Final of the Hula Hoops National Cup at the National Basketball Arena.
The President is an avid sports fan and a regular at major events. This will be his first time at the biggest night of the year for Basketball and he can expect a warm and very loud welcome from one of the noisiest sporting events on the calendar.
Speaking about the news, CEO and Secretary General of Basketball Ireland Bernard O’Byrne said “We are delighted and honoured to welcome President Higgins to one of the biggest games of the year in Irish basketball – the Men’s Hula Hoops National Cup final.”
“We have no doubt that Pyrobel Killester and Griffith Swords Thunder will put on a fantastic showcase of basketball for the President and we look forward to welcoming him on the night.”
