The Irish Olympic Sailing team is to be sponsored by Providence Resources.  An initial one year deal will provide additional resource for the three prospects already qualified for the 2012 games and the three other campaigns hoping to do so this month.
The support also extends to the Paralympic Sailing team for whom John Twomey will be competing at the games for a remarkable tenth time.
Annalise Murphy is of those to have secured her place already.  She was at the launch of the sponsorship in Dublin today with Tony O’Reilly, CEO of Provident Resources.
“This is great news for the whole team,” she said.  “We have a very busy schedule of training and performance over the next few months leading up to the Games and this has given us all a huge boost.”
“Providence Resources is proud to sponsor the Irish Olympic Sailing team,” said O’Reilly.  “They have genuine prospects of bringing back medals from the Games and we want the whole country to get behind them.”
Providence Resources are currently investigating what could be a significant oil reserve off the Cork coast and are keen to maintain dialogue with the sailing community to assuage concerns over the impact of exploration activities around Ireland in Dublin, Clare, Kerry and Antrim.
