Rowing Ireland has unveiled a series of strategic appointments to enhance its high-performance and organisational capacity as part of the rollout of its 2024–2029 Strategic Plan.
The new roles span coaching, governance, athlete welfare, and system development, reflecting a comprehensive approach to long-term success on and off the water.
Rowing Ireland still remains committed to appointing a High-Performance Director, and a dedicated focus group is currently working on the process to define and support that appointment.
In the meantime, however, under the leadership of High Performance Lead Coach Dominic Casey, it is announcing an expansion of its elite coaching team with several additions.
Clara O’Brien steps in as High-Performance Pathways Coordinator, while Ed Hartery joins as Strength and Conditioning Coach. Former international medalist Denise Walsh and Swiss coach Daniel Blaser also take up High-Performance coaching roles. Ciara Harte will continue as interim High-Performance Operations Manager and Acting Women in Sport Officer.
Beyond the high-performance domain, Rowing Ireland is introducing new operational roles to support club development and inclusivity.
These include a High Performance Wellness Officer, a Coastal Pathway Coordinator to advance coastal rowing, and an Indoor Rowing Project Officer to grow nationwide participation. A Safeguarding and Safe Sport Officer has also been appointed, underlining the organisation’s commitment to athlete welfare.
A new senior leadership role, Head of Governance and Planning, will work closely with the CEO, Michelle Carpenter, to ensure strategic alignment, sustainability, and compliance.
“These appointments represent a significant investment in the future of Irish rowing,” she said.
“They reflect our commitment to building world-class systems that support high performance, participation, and athlete-centred growth at every level.”
