Ballot

A total of one million tickets will be made available in this round of sales with the successful applicants determined by a ballot rather than on a first come first served basis.

Rugby World Cup is introducing a new ticketing system where you will be able to apply for as many tickets as you like (up to a maximum of four tickets per game) but you can limit your exposure in terms of cost by only taking a percentage if you are successful with all your bids.

Resale platform

Another development on the ticketing system used for the London 2012 Olympic Games is that the organisers will have a resale platform available next year where you can sell any unwanted tickets at face value, based of course on their being willing buyers.

Both initiatives are likely to raise the level of initial requests and sales which should put organisers in a healthy financial position one year out from the tournament.

Any tickets remaining unsold through this general sale period will be sold on a first come first served basis in November.

London 2012 also imposed a restriction limiting bookings to those made using Visa cards. Visa was the official payment partner of the Games.  While Mastercard hold that same position with Rugby World Cup there is no indication that a similar restriction will be imposed.

Exciting

“We are about to embark on an exciting period in the build up to Rugby World Cup 2015,” said Tournament CEO Debbie Jevans.

“Fans will be able to create their own ticketing account and start planning their tournament.”

“We have developed a system that we believe will make the application process easy and efficient, and offer flexibility to fans whose circumstances and availability might change in the period between application and the games.”

Ticketing is one of the most critical areas in advance planning for a tournament and careful consideration of what has been unveiled now for England will be made by those responsible for plotting Ireland’s prospective bid to host the event in 2023.

Wrwc 2014 SFSport for Business has received substantial interest in our desire to form a group of interested parties from within our membership to assist in determining whether the IRFU might bid to host the 2017 Women’s Rugby World Cup in Limerick.  We will carry more on how this idea is developing over the coming weeks.
