Sky TV, through its subsidiary Cloud, is reported to be on the point of bidding to manage Dublin City Council’s provision of free wireless access to the internet at 12 locations around the city.
It is also possible that this may be extended for major events such as the Tall Ships coming to Dublin.  Sky is Ireland’s largest pay TV provider in Ireland, linking 675,000 homes to its mix of news, entertainment and primarily sports content.
The Cloud subsidiary already provides WiFi access at sporting venues in the UK including Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium and Silverstone racetrack.
Any move to extend the coverage to Dublin’s major sporting venues at Croke Park and the Aviva Stadium would likely be compromised by existing sponsor relationships between the GAA with Eircom; the IRFU with O2 and the FAI with Three, all of whom provide their own wireless products.
