Cork City’s relegation last season means that they dominate the social media analytics of the SSE Airtricity Men’s First Division.

There are a number of positives, first that they continued to grow their follower base, and by a percentage increase greater than half the teams in the Premier Division. And second that half of the teams in the First Division increased by a greater percentage than them.

Increases on a smaller base look better but you can only grow from the base you have and that positive sign despite the increased concern over X as a social medium outside of sport is a winner for the League.

The total follower base across the ten teams in the second flight is 184,600, 30 percent of which is accounted for by Cork City.

Together with the Premier Division statistics we published last week that means a base across the 20 Men’s clubs of 531,000 as well as 62,900 that follow the Official league of Ireland account.

The bottom four in the table of total followers were the top four in the percentage growth which indicates that nobody is being left behind in the gaining of new fans and followers.

Wexford FC are placed third in the total Instagram followership vs seventh in that on Twitter.

Next week we will complete our Social Media round up with a look at the Women’s Premier Division and then we will go into an analysis of sponsorship and other commercial activity off the field of play.

Take a look at the figures from the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division here.
