There were big wins for many of our Sport for Business members at the Livewire sponsored Sponsorship Awards held in Dublin’s InterContinental Hotel last night.
PSG Sponsorship won the Agency Team of the Year and key member of that team Joanne O’Sullivan won the Rising Star in Sponsorship Award capping another great year for the team behind Lidl’s, Vodafone’s, Aer Lingus’ and AIG’s cutting edge sponsorship campaigns.

Vodafone Ireland itself won the Best Sponsorship Brand award, helped no doubt by the recent high profile successes of the Irish Rugby team but also reaping the rewards for integrating that sponsorship in particular so fully within their overall marketing and communications campaigns. They also picked up the awards in Social Media and PR.
Aer Lingus secured the award for best Sports team or Athlete Sponsorship, also around Irish Rugby while the sport struck gold again in the Sporting Event Sponsorship category for Heineken Ireland and in the Grand Prix category for Sponsorship of the Year given to Three Ireland for the ‘Lets Tackle Homelessness’ campaign with Focus Ireland that marked its departure from the sport at the Six Nations.
Relive the winners from the Sport Industry Awards
Heineken were back on stage to collect a gong for best use of Radio Sponsorship with Newstalk and Off the Ball while Carlsberg won the TV version for ‘Part of the Game around the Euro 2016 tournament in June.
The best use of Print and Outdoor was from the same period of high summer going to the VHI Women’s Mini Marathon.
The GAA missed out on potential awards for AIB, AIG and Lidl, all of whom had been winners at the Sport Industry Awards earlier in the month but they did secure the Best Multi Platform Award for the new partnership with Sure based around their being the Association’s Official Statistics Partner.

The FAI will also be pleased with their night’s contribution with Aviva taking the best Grassroots sponsorship award for the FAI Junior Cup and Spar winning the first award of the night for best use of Digital through the ‘Team of Gary Breens.’
Congratulations to everybody who won or was shortlisted. It has been one hell of a year and 2017 promises to be another.
Here are some of the messages of celebration that were lighting up social media last night and first a reminder of that overall winning Three Ireland campaign from the start of the Year…

… and finally, one special mention for PwC whose nomination for Sponsorship of Irish under Age Rugby didn’t pick up an award but who did a Mannequin challenge getting ready for the night that definitely captured they must be some team to work alongside…
