james_galvinThe closing date for the 2016 Sport Industry Awards has been extended to 12 noon tomorrow, Tuesday October 25th.

This is an opportunity for sporting bodies, sponsor brands and major events to gain recognition for great work done in sport over the last twelve months and join leaders from sport and business at a gala awards presentation in Dublin’s Mansion House on November 10th?

A short list will be drawn up and the judging panel will meet later this week to pore over the best of Irish sport and determine who can lay claim to being the very best in one of 12 award categories as well as one lifetime achievement award.

The award categories are in the following key areas:

  • Best Established Sport Business
  • Best Emerging Sport Business
  • Best Sports Participation Event
  • Best International Sports Event hosted in Ireland
  • Best Sponsorship of a Team or Individual
  • Best Sponsorship of a Sporting Event or Competition
  • Best Sports Journalist
  • Best Use of Social Media by a Sports Business
  • Best Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative
  • Best Innovation in Sport
  • National Sport Governing Body of the Year
  • Best Local Sports Partnership Initiative
  • Lifetime achievement / outstanding contribution award

The Sport Industry Awards were established in 2015 by the Federation of Irish Sport to create a forum to recognise excellence in the business of sport and also to highlight the increasing contribution of sport to Ireland.

Sport for Business is a strong supporter of the Awards and will be on the judging panel.

The winners will be determined by an experienced and knowledgeable judging panel drawn from the business and sports communities including:

  • Cliona O’ Leary, Deputy Head of TV Sport, RTE
  • Rob Hartnett, CEO, Sport for Business
  • Russell Murphy, Founder & Owner, BSI Entertainment
  • Maeve Buckley, Director, Line Up Sports
  • Roddy Guiney, Chairman of Wilson Hartnell and Federation of Irish Sport Board Member
  • Fiona Coghlan, former Ireland women’s rugby captain and Chairperson, Dublin City Sport & Wellbeing Partnership
  • Ian Hyland, CEO & Publisher, Business and Finance media group
  • Sean O’ Connor, Chief Operations Officer of last year’s winner of the established sports business award, Statsports
