Research from Horse Racing Ireland has shown a surge in interest in the sport across all age ranges but especially in the 18-24 category.
39 per cent of the general population now express an interest in the sport, up from 23 per cent a year before.
That kind of exponential growth is rare and we caught up with the CEO of the Horse Racing Ireland Racecourse Division Paul Dermody to ask how he thought it had come about.
Media coverage and content were two of the key areas and there are perhaps lessons to be learned for many other sports in how they have come together.
Perhaps the best thing of the numbers is that the survey took place before Rachael Blackmore put the sport into a global spotlight be becoming the first woman to ride the winner of the Aintree Grand National earlier this month.
