Dermot Rigley, Commercial Director of PRO14 Rugby joins Rob Hartnett for a chat about the effort going in to bring the Guinness PRO14 tournament back to action and the many commercial discussions that are going on in the time now being afforded to the management team off the field of play.
We check in on the current state of play with regard to Rugby’s return to play protocols and the difficult decision to cancel this year’s destination Final in Cardiff.
Looking at the longer-term we talk about OTT, the next cycle of media broadcast rights and the potential for greater integration across commercial packages in the sport as a whole.
He holds out the potential for consolidation of broadcast rights across fewer individual broadcast partners which will go down well with fans.
The idea is still only in the early stages and he is careful to pay tribute to those broadcasters who are currently involved in showing the sport, but it does give comfort that discussions and thinking are going on with regards to sport beyond the current pandemic.
