Irish Paralympics riders secure Olympic place
The Irish Para Equestrian team will be representing the country at this summer’s Payalympic Games in London.  The confirmation of their place was made by the sport’s governing body on Thursday.
Ireland is ranked sixth in the world and won a first Championship medal when Helen Kearney took bronze in last September’s European Championship.  James Dwyer has been performing very well in the USA.  The team will be made up of four riders and their horses who will compete in their grades in team, individual and freestyle events.
Para Equestrian Ireland is affiliated to Horse Sport Ireland and is supported financially by business man Denis O’Brien, Horseware Ireland, Bluegrass Horsefeeds and TRM.
Demons and Eagles prepare for Tallaght
The men’s and women’s Basketball Super League National Cup Finals take place at the National Arena in Tallaght tonight.  The women’s final between DCU Mercy and UL gets the evening started at 1845, followed by the men’s decider between UCC Demons and UL Eagles at 2045.
The finals will be broadcast live by Setanta Ireland who recently signed as the sport’s TV partner.
Those attending the matches for which tickets cost a maximum of €15 will have a chance to shoot a basket from the half court line and win €1,000 in a promotion sponsored by Basketball Ireland’s insurance partners O’Driscoll O’Neill.
There is online play by play statistical analysis, powered by Sporting Pulse available at the Basketball Ireland website, very much in keeping with the move towards stats analysis in sport discussed in this week’s Sport for Business Weekly.
