It was not supposed to be like this in 2021. The pandemic which blasted us out of our sporting stride in 2020 was only to have run for a few months and then everything would be back.
It was a year of catching up. The Euro’s, the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Ryder Cup all took place out of sequence but they did take place, and their renewals are closer.
Approaching the end of the year we are in turmoil once more with crowd restrictions and surging numbers but with vaccines and boosters, we are in a better place than we were 12 months ago.
Sport has been a bright shining light amid the gloom once more in 2021 and will continue to be so.
It brings us together as people and grows stronger with commercial support from strong partners who understand the magic and enhance rather than damage it.
Sport gives us an understanding of winning and losing; of improving through putting in the hard work, and of learning from setbacks to come back a better version of ourselves.
In 2022 Sport for Business will celebrate 10 years of shining a light on what you do as sporting organisations, state bodies, sponsors, partners, educators, agencies, athletes and managers.
It has been a pleasure to do so and every morning brings fresh enthusiasm to go again, to be better.
We have big plans for the year ahead. A new look to our now twice-daily bulletins, a new venture into podcasting to go deeper with the people who matter in our working and sporting lives, great events and more ways to connect you as our brilliant network of people doing great work..
We will be back for more in January and are excited already for the prospect of a year to remember for all the right reasons.
For now though, here is a whistle-stop tour of what happened in the past twelve months that mattered most to us, and to you…
We kicked off the New Year with an A-Z of the themes and stories that we felt would dominate the year ahead and for the most part, they were spot on. Little did we think that Tokyo 2020 would still be on a knife-edge or that Dublin would lose the hosting of Euro 2020 matches but the events that were supposed to happen in large part did. C was unsurprisingly for Covid-19 and our belief that it would ‘remain the key determinant of our sporting lives through 2021.’ To let you in on a secret, it might be so again when we publish the same list in January…

Events

He was joined by Martin Murphy, Chris Bird, Katie McIntyre and many more with over 400 friends, members and colleagues joining us.
