After a historic year for the NFL across the island of Ireland, attention now turns firmly to California, where Super Bowl LX will take place on Sunday night, February 8, between AFC champions the New England Patriots and NFC champions the Seattle Seahawks.

Irish audiences will have unprecedented access to the biggest night in American sport, with Virgin Media Television delivering live, free-to-air coverage, supported by on-site reporting from Pro Football Ireland, who have been embedded in the Bay Area throughout Super Bowl week.

Michael McQuaid will be pitchside at Levi’s Stadium, joined by former NFL coach Jeff Reinebold. Their presence marks the first-ever in-stadium Super Bowl broadcast by an Irish outlet, and the first Irish television coverage of the game since the early 1990s.

Alongside the California operation, Virgin Media Television will also deploy an additional production and reporting team in Dublin, providing studio updates, reaction and analysis throughout the game, which will air live on Virgin Media One.

Shelbourne FC CEO and former Dublin GAA star Tomás Quinn will be one of the studio guests talking through the game.

Fans here have also been able to enjoy the Irish NFL Show broadcasting from Radio Row throughout the week, led by Teneo Director Conor Brophy who has been securing some superstar voices from the Moscone Centre in San Francisco.

The broadcast builds on a breakthrough year for the sport in Ireland, following the success of the NFL Dublin Game and growing domestic engagement across broadcast, live events and grassroots participation.

We might have missed out on having an NFL game back in Dublin this year but the focus will instead shift to the College Game where NFL Legend Bill Belichick will bring his University of North Carolina to play against Texas Christian University in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic in August at the Aviva Stadium.

There will be watch parties going on across Dublin on Sunday night including at the Woolshed, the Odeon and one hosted by the US Embassy at JR Mahons on the Quays.

For fans this is one of the sporting nights of the year.
