Supervalu launched its sponsorship of the 2020 GAA All Ireland Football Championships on Friday by calling on GAA fans across the country to ‘Support Where You’re From’ by showing their county passion and pride from the safety of their homes and communities.

The brand announced that, as part of their 11th year of partnership with the GAA,  they are on the hunt to find Ireland’s most devoted and vocal superfans this Championship season and to put them in the spotlight.

As part of their sponsorship activation, they will be behind a fly-on-the-wall peek inside the homes of county superfans, during the All-Ireland Semi-Finals and the All-Ireland Final, in a new online series called ‘SuperValu’s Superfans’.

As supporters experience the nail-biting pre-match nerves, the first touch of the ball, and every crunching tackle from their couches, SuperValu will be capturing their live reactions which will broadcast across SuperValu’s social media channels.

Emotion

You’d have to hope they will have the beep machine acting in overdrive if they are to capture the raw emotion of these biggest of games from a fan’s perspective.

They are looking through Facebook for fans and families to submit to the camera’s coming into their homes and offering Christmas hampers as an additional competition incentive.

“This year has been like no other in the history of the GAA and we know fans all around the country have desperately missed the weekly inter-county action over the summer.,” said SuperValu Managing Director Ray Kelly.

“We know there are many fans who have never missed an inter-county match, but we also know that they are still as passionate as ever and will be showing their support for their team from their homes and communities. ”

“This year we enter our 11th year as sponsor of the GAA Football All-Ireland Senior Championship and we want to help fans to Support Where You’re From.”

Worked Closely

“We have worked closely with SuperValu since the start of the pandemic and we fully endorse this latest initiative to acknowledge passionate support of our teams from the safety of our homes in the weeks and months ahead,” added GAA President John Horan.

“Of course, our 2020 championships are going to be different but they will still engage us and provide us with a welcome distraction at a time of the year when it will be most welcome. Good luck to SuperValu with ‘Support Where You’re From’ and thanks to them for their ongoing support of Gaelic games.”

As well as the Superfans activity this Championship season, SuperValu will also work with its ambassadors and the GAA community to explore what it means to ‘Support Where You’re From’.

This will include content from players like David Clifford of Kerry and Ryan McHugh of Donegal as well as Kerry Manager peter Keane who runs his own Supervalu franchise,  on the difficulties they faced due to COVID-19 and their thoughts on returning to the pitch in front of empty stands.
