The closing date for the initial consultation phase on SSE Airtricity’s Generation Green Community Fund is fast approaching.

This is a new €5m/£4.3m fund to support communities working to enhance biodiversity, cleaner and more efficient energy usage and sustainability-focused education and awareness in cities, towns, villages and neighbourhoods, urban and rural, across the island of Ireland.

The investment is part of SSE Airtricity’s commitment to creating a more sustainable future for everyone. It is aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the company’s mission to support communities, homeowners, and businesses on the journey to a net zero future.

“Getting to net zero is in everyone’s interest, and local communities will be at the heart of the energy transition,” said Klair Neenan, Managing Director of SSE Airtricity.

“We know passionate people and groups are working hard across Ireland, and we want to help them make a positive difference by powering up their sustainability plans.”

“But funding can often be an issue. That’s why we’re delighted to have got a great response to our unique Generation Green Community Fund.”

“We know issues like biodiversity, education and decarbonisation are big priorities but to ensure the funding makes the biggest difference, we wanted to hear from local communities directly.”

Sports clubs have an important role to play in their local communities, and they will likely be part of the funding when it is announced.

This initial phase of consultation closes on Friday, August 23rd.
