The 20th May Rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda serrano, announced earlier this month, has been postponed due to a foot injury to Serrano.

Imagine the consternation now if Croke Park had been booked and tickets sold for an 80,000 homecoming. The Croke Park team who emerged with credit from a dust-up over costs and security, would by this point have invested heavily in the required infrastructure for an event of this scale and now it would be with the contract lawyers to determine where those costs might have been met out of.

The beauty of staging matches and tournaments is that for the most part, global pandemics and acts of God notwithstanding, the show will go on.

Boxing though is always subject to the fitness of the bill toppers and that is where 20th May was scratched this afternoon in a statement from Matchcroom.

The fight was to have been confirmed for the 3 Arena but now it will take time for the two promoters to find a suitable date.

It may yet be possible for Taylor to fight anyway on that date in that venue, and the passage of time and a less congested sporting schedule for Croke Park in the Autumn may yet see that dream night still transpire.

In this game though, it is best still perhaps to count your chickens when they are already hatched.
